About Delhi Golf Club Peacock Nine Course - 2016
DW

Presently located in the heart of New Delhi, the Delhi Golf Club was founded in the 1930s as a municipal golf course, covered a much larger area, and was a secluded spot in the midst of thick jungle. In the early 1950s, it became a member’s club and the flat greens gave way to raised platforms. Then in the 1970s, Peter Thomson redesigned the course and in spite of the creation of the Peacock Nine (a short nine-hole course alongside), the forest character of the course was retained. One of India's premier golf clubs, The Delhi Golf Club is the only course in the world dotted with historical monuments of immense archaeological value. Built on land that was a burial ground of the Sultanate and Mughal dynasties, it integrates and adorns a slice of the city’s history within its lush lawns, sprawling across an area of 220 acres. The walled area of the club includes large number of interesting archaeological remains.

Peacock Nine’s current redesign and upgradation has retained the old character of narrow scrub and tree-lined fairways with the course’s existing foliage that is complemented by the presence of ancient ruins dotting the course.

For the Peacock Nine, Design Workshop sought to enhance visual and graphic identity signs that included the rich architectural heritage of the surrounding area and have consonance with the surrounding natural beauty of the course by using the peacock as the lay motif. Design Workshop undertook design development and production of the tee signages and benches for the course.
